The Newcastle Jets Youth team were defeated 3-1 by Lambton Jaffas FC in their Round 12 NBN State League clash at Arthur Edden Oval on Saturday.
The Jets fell behind in the 38th minute when John Majurovski put the home side ahead with a clever finish, following a ball across the six-yard box from Connor Evans.
Lambton doubled their lead minutes later when Abe Wheelhouse capitalised on a mistake from the Jets and calmly found the back of the net to put the Jaffas 2-0 up.
The Jets came out with renewed vigour in the second half with Brandon Lundy hitting the crossbar on 55 minutes and Bobby Russell striking the post a short time later.
Matt Kenny put the result beyond doubt with less than 15 minutes remaining, when he was able to finish from close range.
Mitch Oxborrow scored a late consolation for the Jets with a curling left-footed shot from outside the box that found the back of the net in stoppage time.
