Newcastle Jets defender Jason Hoffman says the team is looking to cause an upset tomorrow afternoon at Hunter Stadium and defeat Hyundai A-League leaders Brisbane Roar on home turf.
Coming off the back of a well-earned point against Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium last weekend, Hoffman says the Jets are in excellent shape considering where the club is at in its rebuilding phase.
“There’s a very positive mood in the camp [right now],” Hoffman said.
“Taking a point away from Adelaide in the end was good result.
“People need to remember that we’re in a much better position than we were last season as a club.
“It’s a long process and we’re quite comfy where we stand and with a win at home tomorrow we will go equal top of the league.
“We’re in a good position and we’re working hard every day to improve and that’s the biggest thing for the future – constant improvement,” he said.
The right back believes the Jets have been competitive in all of their home matches to date and they’re focused on giving their home supporters a win against Brisbane.
“Obviously you go into every game looking for the maximum three points,” Hoffman said.
“But you have to be realistic too as you’re not going to go through the whole year and win every single game.
“It’s important to do it for the fans and do it for the people of the Hunter who love their football.
“To maximise our points at home is always the goal and we’re confident that with the constant improvement we’ve been working on this week we can get the three points tomorrow,” Hoffman added.
Brisbane Roar currently sit on top of the Hyundai A-League ladder and are coming off the back of a come from behind draw with Melbourne City last Friday night.
While Hoffman says the Roar are set to provide a stern challenge, the former Melbourne City defender says Jets’ boss Scott Miller has got his troops ready to show their home fans a determined Jets effort. Â
“I know their [Brisbane Roar] coach John Aloisi who I played under in Melbourne and he’s a fantastic coach,” Hoffman explained.
“You can see his quality has shone through with Brisbane Roar this year and they’ve played some fantastic football.
“But in saying that we played them in pre-season where we were quite comfortable.
“It’s our home ground so we’ll have to take the game to them and you’ll see a different intensity from the get go,” he said. Â
