It was a whirlwind Friday for fresh Newcastle Jets recruit Morten Nordstrand, the former Danish Superliga top scorer took part in his first training session with his new teammates in the morning before meeting the local press for the first time at Hunter Stadium in the afternoon.
Nordstrand, alongside Newcastle Jets Head Coach Scott Miller and interim Chief Executive Officer, Mr David Eland, told the media that he is a “winner” and someone that club Members and supporters can count on to give their all for the Jets.
“I like winning [and] that’s the most important thing in football,” Nordstrand said. “I am a winner and I fight to the end.”

“In terms of my qualities on the pitch it is in the last third – seeing passes, finding the pockets in between the lines and finishing as well.”
“In training today I felt good. It was a hot day at the office, but that’s something that I have to get used to. I came from minus ten [degrees] to 27 today. It was good to get my legs going and meet the guys.”
“It was a good session, it was a good level, and I hope can bring something into the team,” Nordstrand noted.
Miller told the press that he’s delighted with Nordstrand’s addition to his squad due to the fact he now has more flexibility with his attacking options.
“We have a puzzle to put together now and we’ve got options, so that’s what I am excited about,” Miller said.
“You know a footballer the minute you see one and the fact that he [Nordstrand] has a first touch is nice to see. He can control it [the ball], utilise it and link up with our midfield.”
“What I am expecting from Morten is intelligence, and to relay his experience not only to our young players but also to the senior players to assist them in their development and challenge them for the rest of the season.”
“I know a lot of Scandinavian people and they never let anyone down,” Miller said.
Eland took Friday’s press briefing as an opportunity to formally welcome former Denmark international Nordstrand to the Northern New South Wales football family.
“This is a great opportunity for myself to welcome Morten on behalf of the club, our Members, fans, and the broader community,” Eland said.
“It’s great to have Morten here, and I am sure that I speak on behalf of everybody in wishing him every success, we hope he absolutely thrives.”
“Morten’s signature is a sign of the club’s commitment to building the depth and quality of our squad as we as we keep forging in the Hyundai A-League.”
“Absolutely it’s great to add depth as we go into the last phase of the season,” Eland said.Â
