Newcastle Jets’ long run without a win in Western Australia extended on Monday evening with Scott Miller’s side suffering a 2-0 defeat to Kenny Lowe’s Perth Glory at nib Stadium.
Goals to Andy Keogh and Gyorgy Sandor in the 37th and 46th minutes respectively proved to be enough for the purple-whites on their home patch.
Newcastle had central defender Daniel Mullen sent off for a second bookable offence after an hour of play, leaving the Jets to chase the game with ten men.
Miller’s side prodded and probed in the second stanza, but couldn’t quite force the ball beyond Perth goalkeeper Ante Covic and into the Glory’s goal.
Milos Trifunovic fired wide after a great counter-attack involving Morten Nordstrand and Enver Alivodic two minutes after Mullen’s dismissal.
Late in the fixture Nordstrand and Alex Grant tangled in the box with referee Chris Beath firstly awarding a penalty. However, Beath reversed his decision after consultation with his assistant referee, leaving the Jets devoid of the chance to reduce the arrears and to perhaps push for a late match leveler.

In the first half – which Newcastle dominated for significant periods – Leonardo and Nordstrand each played sublime forward passes to Trifunovic, however the Serbian striker’s efforts were blocked by desperate defending from Glory’s Alex Grant.
Keogh netted seven minutes before the break when he headed a precise Aryn Williams cross into the back of the net from just beyond the six-yard box.
Hungarian midfielder Sandor slid a low strike beyond Jets custodian Mark Birighitti less than a minute after the restart after he received a pass from Glory’s special Spaniard Diego Castro, doubling Perth’s advantage.
Newcastle Jets will play their next match at Hunter Stadium against Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday.
15 points remain on offer in the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 regular season for each club. Newcastle currently sits outside the competition’s top six by five points.
