COVID Update: Additional cases, upcoming matches to proceed

COVID UPDATE: The Newcastle Jets can confirm that a second member of the Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s team has tested positive to COVID-19. The individual is a household contact of the case that was reported as positive yesterday.

All other players and staff relating to the Men’s team have returned negative PCR tests.

The scheduled Round Five match against Macarthur on Sunday night is currently proceeding as planned.

Additionally, following precautionary PCR testing of the Women’s team, the Club can confirm that a player from the Liberty A-League Women’s team has tested positive. This involves a fully vaccinated individual who tested positive via a rapid antigen test, and PCR test on Wednesday 15 December.  It is believed the player is likely to have acquired the virus in connection with her non-football place of work. This player is currently self-isolating and all other players and staff are adhering to league protocols. 

All other Women’s team players and staff members have tested negative.

The scheduled Round Three match against Western Sydney is currently proceeding as planned this weekend.

In adherence to the advice of NSW Health, the two teams’ training schedules will continue as usual however all players and staff will undergo stricter restrictions in their day-to-day activities and will continue to undertake daily rapid antigen tests, with a negative result required, before entering the relevant training venue. 

The Club will continue to work closely with the A-League and NSW Health to ensure the health of all players and staff which is top priority.
